Del 6 al 9 de marzo tuvo lugar la 17ª edición de la China Xiamen International Stone Fair que, como su nombre indica, tuvo lugar en la ciudad de Xiamen.
Es uno de los eventos internacionales del sector más importantes. Mármoles Moratonas estuvo presente con nuestro material estrella, el MOON GREY.
A través de uno de nuestros clientes, el acabado apomazado de MOON GREY, fue presentado en la Feria de Xiamen como Grigio Caos.

IN AN EXHIBITION AND IN PRESS.
From March 6th to 9th, was the 17th edition of China Xiamen International Stone Fair as, its name shows, took place in the city of Xiamen.
It's one of the most important international shows of the sector. Mármoles Moratonas were there with our starring material, the MOON GREY.
Through one of our customers, the MOON GREY honed finish, was presented in the Xiamen show as Grigio Caos.

By another side, the digital magazine Focus Piedra, publishes an interview to the General Manager of Mármoles Moratonas, Salvador Moratonas. We leave you the link of the interview; the interview is in spanish but we leave the translation of it.
Salvador Moratonas is one of the men of the stone industry,
with a long trajectory in the sector. The company he manages, Mármoles Hnos.
Moratonas, began its activity in 1980 at the quarry of Montlleó de Castellgalí,
located at the region of Bages (Barcelona) with his father, Salvador Moratonas
Senior. Later, his brothers and sister, Jaume, Marcel, Jordi and Cristina,
joined up to the company. Currently is one of the referenced companies of the
sector, with 10.000 square meters of facilities with an annual with a capacity of
5.800 cubic meters and a new plant for the production of small floor tiles. And
preparing the purchase of two more. Focus Piedra interviews Salvador Moratonas
to know the plans of this company for this year and the future.
You are the third generation of the
company. How were your beginnings in the company?
The beginnings were the base of what nowadays the project of
our company is; but what I think it’s very important it’s the fourth generation
that assumes the generational reliefs. Xantal as a Community Manager; Pol,
Sílvia and Jaume, collaborate with the the shows we are in. We are talking
about this fourth generation and count with it, is what it is really important,
they are the future.
The company has evolved a lot last years.
Which are the remarkable changes?
During this period of time, we’ve incorporated new
exploitations as the Sant Vicenç-Moon Grey quarry, the Pierre du Thor quarry in
Preixana, Lleida, the quarry in Alcañiz, Teruel, as preferential agreements in
some cases and exclusive in others, as different materials quarries. Nowadays
we have 4 concessions with 11 grids totally. We’ve incorporated and renovated
machinery and open new markets.
You been acquiring several quarries
along last years. Have you got the intention to increase the own stone
brochure?
Yes, we hope to include unless one white stone quarry and
another with black stone.
Your star product is your Moon Grey
limestone. Why do you think this product fits so well in the market in front of
the rest of the stones you commercialize?
What makes it an exclusive stone are its
physical-mechanics characteristics, its homogeneity, independently of its sizes precision, presentation and
service.
The
sandstones are the other big bet of your company. Which are the market segment
with more possibilities for this kind of materials?
It depends of the market but it’s an alternative and
could satisfy other tastes and demands.
You’ve supply materials for Korea, London or New York. Which is the
volume of production you are exporting?
Nowadays the 50%,
but I think we will get the 60% but the implantation in Spain is important and
it is not to detract.
Which is the most interesting of your markets?
So many, but any
especially because we have customers addicted to our materials and ways to
work.
Are you worried about the possible protections measures of Donald
Trump or the United Kingdom exit from the UE?
Yes, of course.
Maybe we are more affected for the BREXIT, but it’s because aren’t public
works, are private and the offer is minor.
Which do you think are the purchase tendency of the warehouses? What
more they demand?
Logically the Moon
Grey, more in slab than tile, but because of its rotation objectives, the
stocks are the minimum. However our usual customers work for projects.
The United States
has a specific certification that accredit the sustainable production for the
extraction and elaboration for stone companies. Do you think it’s an
interesting initiative to implant in Spain?
Yes of course. It’s
a kind of rule we have as an internal order, would favor us, however, I wonder
if it would be applied in in emergent countries with their products.
Which will be the plans for your Enterprise during
2017?
Urbanize the Access, enlarge the area of the factory and apply improvements at
the quarry and the factory.
